Breastfeeding Benefits
According to various medical documents and doctors, breastmilk provides babies with a much higher source of nutrition than that of regular formula milk; this has proven to significantly lower the infant’s chances of possible sicknesses and infections. It has been proven to lower risk of diarrhea and fight against various kinds of respiratory illness. It also helps detract overall weight
from the mother as it significantly lowers calories. The very act of breastfeeding has also proven to significantly decrease a woman’s chance of certain illnesses, particularly breast cancer. As of a few years ago it was still illegal in certain states to breastfeed in public; however, certain instances and confrontations—particularly the arrest of an anonymous woman in 1992 on a Tallahassee, Florida bus by two policemen, which aroused outrage by many passengers. Since 1999, when President Clinton signed the Treasury Postal Appropriations bill which included Rep. Maloney's Right to Breastfeed Act it has been legal to publicly breastfeed in all 50 states; many women have found this law encouraging enough to re-claim their right to breast feed naturally.
